Skins star Kaya Scodelario has ruled herself out of the role of Anastasia Steele in the new Fifty Shades Of Grey film — her mother has made her promise not to strip off on camera.
The actress, 21, is just one of the names linked to the part, along with Emma Watson, Mila Kunis, Shailene Woodley and Emmy Rossum. But she said she had vowed not to get naked for any role: “I’m not comfortable doing nudity. That’s something quite personal. My mum’s always asked me not to do it and I respect her.
“I’m nowhere near confident enough in myself. Considering what the film is about, I wouldn’t be able to.” Scodelario — who was brought up by her mother in Holloway — spoke ahead of tonight’s UK premiere of Emanuel And The Truth About Fishes, at Sundance London. She plays a troubled girl who becomes preoccupied with a mysterious new neighbour who resembles her dead mother.
Acting with Jessica Biel gave her the chance to meet childhood idol Justin Timberlake, Biel’s then fiancé (the couple wed in October). “He was a God to me when I was eight so I kept trying to play it cool and didn’t mention him. I was alone in LA and [Jessica] invited me round. I rang my mum and was like, ‘I met Justin Timberlake!’ But he’s just really normal … kind of like my boyfriend [actor Elliott Tittensor]; really chilled out.”
With new film The Maze Runner and the last series of E4 show Skins also coming up, Scodelario is not tempted to move to the US for her career: “I’m an extremely proud Londoner … I don’t see myself moving yet.”
